Taking Better Digital Pictures

Most of us have shoe boxes full of old photo prints-blurry, heads cut off, too dark, too bright, you name it-that we took to get a few great shots.

One big advantage of a digital camera is the ability to take many pictures with little expense beyond your initial investment in the camera equipment. This is important because taking great pictures means taking a lot of pictures. With a digital camera, you can take dozens of pictures on a memory card, review them, decide which ones to keep or print, then erase the memory card and start over.

Manufacturers of digital cameras and peripheral equipment offer hints on how to take good pictures. Here are some sites that offer picture-taking hints:

Other sites offer hints and help, too:

Have fun snapping lots of digital pictures! It's fun to have pictures to send and share.

What's a Megapixel?

Buying a Digital Camera
camera

What was your first camera? A Kodak box camera, like the Brownie? An Instamatic? Maybe you had a Polaroid, with instant pictures. Whatever it was, it was probably fairly simple to operate-and to buy. Choosing a digital camera, on the other hand, can be a bewildering adventure among megapixels, optical zoom, memory cards, resolution, and more. Learning the terminology will help. Check out the following web sites to "talk the talk."

Now you're ready to shop! This Web site is a comprehensive resource for novices and the more advanced who want to buy a camera. It will walk you through the features you want, your anticipated use, and make recommendations on cameras. The site also has tutorials, troubleshooting hints, and more. A one-stop source for information on digital cameras. But, of course, on the World Wide Web, there is never only one of anything! Here are two of the dozens of sites on digital cameras that may help you find a camera that works for you:
  • Digital Camera Connection
  • Electronics Made Easy
  • Once you decide on a camera, consider buying it from a local retailer that offers free or low-fee classes on digital cameras. This will make using your new camera a far less frustrating experience!
