General Guidelines

  • Don't Trust all you read - Anyone can post a website. Take into consideration who is posting the site.
  • Protect your information - Anyone can send email. If someone, an individual or company contacts you, asking for sensitive information, DO NOT RESPOND! Doing business on the internet is a commonly used practice and usually quite safe HOWEVER use your good judgment. NEVER give out sensitive information that is solicited, i.e. Social security numbers, bank account numbers, credit card numbers etc.
  • Don't save your username and password on public computers - i.e. those at a library.
  • When searching for a website, it is safer to use a search engine rather than guessing the address. Often times a guess at an address will bring up unwanted websites. If this should happen, close out as quickly as possible.
